Latin American Heritage Day Award 2011

Latin American Heritage Day Award 2011
Ottawa, Canada

Last August Gilda was granted the Latin American Heritage Day Award by the Mayor of Ottawa, Mr. Jim Watson.  She was selected among many candidates for her voluntary work during the last 20 years to promote Latin American culture in Canada and for her constant efforts to help people, organizations and countries in need.  She has donated more than 50 paintings to help fund raising events for hospitals, Doctors without Borders, the Canadian Leukemia Study Group, the Lung Association and many others.  She also helped in the organization of fundraising events for countries such as Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Haiti and Bolivia when they were devastated by natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes and flooding.

Exhibition of Photography "Save the South March Highlands"

Beaver Pond Forest is one of my favorite places to walk, observe, meditate, learn and take shots of the beauty and richness of that amazing piece of land.  I have a particular interest in nature and I have taken amazing close-up photographs of my favorite trees in that beautiful forest.

I am presenting an exhibition of photography entitled “Save the March Highlands” at the Ottawa Public Library from November 3 – 30th, 2011 to share with people these beautiful images.

My hope is to make people aware of that magnificent piece of land, which is one of the most ecologically significant and diverse areas in Ottawa and the danger we are facing to loose it forever.   We must try to save it and the proceeds of the sales of this exhibition would go towards that purpose.

Beaver Pond Forest Photography

These Photographs were taken last November at the Beaver Pond Forest in Kanata, Ontario.

The rich texture and beautiful colours found in each one of these trees are really breath taking.  We have to stick together and try to stop developers from destroying this beautiful forest, which is a place for children and adults whether they want to exercise, meditate, go for a pleasant walk or learn about all the richness of this forest.

I am donating the money from the sales of these photographs to the association, which is doing the fundraising event to try to save this jewel.
